Simple Technique to Overcome Overwhelm

Do you feel overwhelmed? You have so much to get done and you don’t know what to do next? You feel demobilized?

When we are in overwhelm, it feels like everything is piling up and the world is on our shoulders. At times, we feel so overwhelmed that we can’t move forward, and yet we know we have a list a mile long of things we must get done.

A lot of folks out there will tell you when you are feeling overwhelmed, to prioritize. Well, priorities are great, but about a year ago when I was feeling stuck and overwhelmed, I needed something more.

What Can I  Do Today?

That’s when I found myself asking, “What can I do today, in this moment, to move forward?”

I ignored the list of priorities and to-do’s that I had previously created, and simply focused on what can I do right now that will help me to feel better.

At that specific time, I was going through some major house repairs. The activity that comes with construction, kept me from effectively doing what was on my “to-do” list. I settled in and began going through a ton of emails I had. When I finished clearing out literally thousands of email, it felt great! I felt lighter which allowed me to step out of overwhelm and back into a calm space to move forward.

I suggest asking yourself this simple question, “what can I do right now, today?” that will help me feel better and to move forward in a small way.  The whole point of life is to move forward and feel good while doing it. I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me.
